SpeedChunnel's Cart coverage better than their F1, but..

I had the impression that Cart would be controlling the pictures
we saw?!  It was better than typical ESPN/ABC but
could be better!  Not enough in-car and still too much
talking/blathering!!

I also thought that having ONLY 2 laps after the last FC yellow
was absurd, I would think there should be a minimum of
say 5 laps on road, 10 or so on oval to run before checkered
would allow MUCH more chance for interesting racing!

Hate those damn FC yellows!!

Come on Cart, IRL is making in-roads, they may win!!!!

Why would CART be controlling the pictures? CART is controlling the race.
And I thought there was too much in car.

Too much in-car? You can never have too much in-car. I can do without the
shifter cam, but it was cool to see MA legs get bounced around. I didnt
realize they had that much room to fly around, now I understand the knee
    pads DC wears..

Yes you can have too much in-car. Too often during the race yesterday, we
were missing on-track action while they were in-car.

While I agree, at least they had the pip of the forward facing camera at the
    same time.

    Yes, sometimes they did.

What was pretty neat for us at one point – I believe it was when Andretti
and da Matta were together, Speed had an in-car from one of them and outside
view, and the international feed that we had in our own PIP (from satellite)
had the in-car from the other car.

Similar situations with other cars happened during the race.

I don’t think there was too much in-car, it was the right amount, just
poorly timed. I’ve noticed Speed has a problem with this, though. In their
coverage of World Challenge for example, they will go to in-car cameras
when passing is happening. You can’t see the move that way, you can only
whether or not a car appears in front. If they used that stuff for re-plays
it would be great, but they way they use it really detracts from the
    broadcast, rather than enhance it.

Funny how different people see thibgs differently. I thought that

You guys area all missing the fact that the race was brodcast and directed
by Aztecha TV in Mexico, so the feed that SPEED got was the feed they had to
    live with,….

I thought overall it was awesome,.. Heads above anything ABC ever did,….
Maybe there was a bit to much in car stuff, that depends on whom you’re
talking to. To much shifter stuff?… it was cool too, but they cic sdrew up
the switching a couple of times. I remember seeing Fernandez’ in car
shifter, and then a PIP on, well, his in car shifter. Then suddenly, there
was his car live on the track. minor mistakes,… Overall i gave the
    brodcast an ‘A’

  10. admin says:

No, we’re not missing any facts.

Speed had some control over which in-car shots they selected. I was watching
both the Speed Channel and the international feed over my big dish. They
    were different at times.

Here’s one for you Mark.  Was the international feed showing an in-car at

Nah, just thinking that if there were in-car shots on both the international
and SC feeds then SC wouldn’t have much to choose from feed wise.

    Beaner

  16. admin says:

Obviously Speed has some control over what they shots they broadcast,
otherwise they couldn’t insert their reporters. I believe they have the same
    control over in-car cameras.

Unfortunately, I can’t record my TV screen with the PIP of the international
feed. (I have tried.). Otherwise I would make some stills and post them.

When we watch the race I have the PIP on-screen. When I want to change which
I want to watch – Speed or feed, for example, when a commercial comes on, I
just swap them. Sometimes, depending on which satellite the feed is on, the
picture is very poor if it is windy and causes the dish to move. If it is,
we only swap during a commercial. Other times the feed may be perfect.

Actually I made a post about them in another thread.  This is the list of
different advertisers that I saw on my broadcast:

    Toyota
    FedEx
    Bridgestone
    Brinks Home Security
Staples (office supply store chain, competitor to Rahal’s Office Depot
    sponsorship)
Goodyear (they don’t participate in open-wheel anymore, but it’s still a
    good advertising investment)
    Hooters (who doesn’t love Hooters?)
Old Spice "Cool Contact Towels" (some sort of new disposable moist towelette
    for men)
    Lexus
    Target
Speed Stick (more men’s hygiene products)
Infinity (the car, not the stereo…hey, don’t they build IRL engines?)
    America Online
    GlaxoSmithKline (pharmaceuticals, specifically Flonase)
    Shell
Mazda (who decided to re-badge Cosworth engines for 2003 in CART…must be
    good advertising)
Yamaha (hey, don’t they sponsor IRL races?)
    Prudential Financial Services
    Honda
    American Plastics Council
    Planters Nuts
Playstation 2 (hey, didn’t they sponsor an IRL team last year?)
Nicoderm CQ (smoking cessation aid for all those former Marlboro Team Penske
    fans)
    Subaru
    BMW
and of course numerous Speedvision/CART/WRC/F1/NASCAR/Superbike/etc promos.

Not a local yokel amongst them (unlike the Miami IRL race).

Damn, you’re doing way too much homework.  :)

With a list like that it would appear someone’s been working overtime.  Just

Dunno.  I don’t recall seeing any, but I was writing them down as they were
coming up so I got everything that I saw.  I did take a "nature break"
during a couple of commercials, so I may have missed one.
