Here are some interesting excerpts from a recent interview with SPEED
Channel President Jim Liberatore:
"Q: SPEED Channel rolled past the 60-million US household mark in
December. The network has been atop the growth charts for months,
having added 19 million households in the last two years. Are you
comfortable with SPEED’s numbers?
Liberatore: "I am comfortable because it’s the pace we had hoped for
and expected all along. We have aggressive expectations and we are
fulfilling them. You would expect that with the NASCAR deal and some
of the exclusive deals we have with other racing series, that we would
have that kind of growth.
"I realize that we are a niche network, but when we are compared to
other niche networks, it’s like apples and oranges. We have live,
first-run airings of the best of our genre, which other networks
don’t. So, we should be growing like this.
"Will we continue to be the fastest growing sports cable network —
no. When you start getting to 60 million homes and then to 65, it does
start to slow. Some of the networks that are just starting up will
obviously start to grow faster than SPEED. Going from zero to seven
million homes is a lot easier than going from 60 to 67 million."
(and)
"Q: Will all the racing series that were on SPEED Channel in 2003 be
back in 2004?
Liberatore: "CART will not. I do not want to announce anything until
they do, but CART will not be back on SPEED Channel. Trans-Am will not
be back on SPEED as far as we know today. As far as I know, that’s
it."
(and, perhpas the funniest thing in the entire interview)
"Q: Is SPEED Channel talking to any other racing series about coming
to the network?
Liberatore: "We are talking to the guys at IROC. Nothing is finalized
yet. There aren’t a lot of other series out there that are looking for
a home. The IRL and NHRA still have deals with ESPN."
(BWAAAAAA-HAAAAAAAAA-HAAAAAAAAA! Speed thinks IROC is more important
than CART or OWRS! Hilarious! Seems like he would like to have the IRL
and/or NHRA, too!)

Is that what you scream everytime you bend over your King George’s desk?
So how many posts does that make for you today? 20? 30? 40? and it’s only
2:50PM on the east coast
Then again you have a lot of time to kill as King George’s "Port-O-Johnny"
attendant

Never been anywhere near a desk of a King George, there Philip.
You talk about Tony George more than anyone on these boards, so
onemight get the impression it is you that has the unnatural
fascination for the man, and his desk, and bending over for him.

At least 459.

There you go again, Potty-boy.
I swear, I have never seen anyone who is as fascinated with portable
water closets as you are, Phil.
Does your family know about this rather demented and crazed fixation
you have over excremental functions?
(BTW, where are all those Net Nannies and Web Watchdogs like Dr. Ron
Ginter and CFster when it comes to posters like Philip? Can you say
"Hypocrite"? I knew that you could.)

#52 today…..do you need to post 100 times a day to get a "pouch" of Clabber
Girl from your King George?

Potty-Boy still can’t count.
Nice to know I am keeping you busy, though, Philip.
Maybe it will keep you out of the Men’s Room.

Nothing.
This is the type of thing I mentioned so many times in our previous
debates, Iain. so many of the pro-CART carry on endlessly about the
supposedly anti-CART posts while turning a blind eye to the likes of
Philip.
In case you didn’t know MPH/CART will not exist after a few more
weeks. And the SCCA are taking back the name Trans-Am, for reasons
known only to them, and that means this series will have to be
renamed.
Meantime OWRS will not and cannot afford to BUY the TV time like CART
did.
Given some of the low interest stuff shown on SpeedTV it would be
silly of them not to support an OWRS series. Why? Because the IRL gets
even fewer viewers so when ESPN eventually loses interest I doubt that
SpeedTv will pick it up. This leaves SpeedTV with ONLY F1 as an
Openwheel series and IF OWRS series becomes succesful they will be
last in the pecking order……
I expect OWRS to eventually do anothe cable TV deal for 2004 only. It
would not be a good idea for the races not to be seen on TV so I would
imagine that a lot of work is going on behind the scenes. Meantime it
is difficult to officially launch anything connected with OWRS until
late January and specifically AFTER the bankruptcy judge makes his
final ruling.
I am surprised you haven’t suggested that "when" ISC BUY CART they
will run an Oval only series in 2004:)

I hear they’ll base the show on "Crossing Over."
John Edwards will be the host and he will interview Carl
Hogan on the first show.

I hear that the producers of ER will be having a new series on ESPN called "IRL
ER" that will be a reality TV show to be shown 48 hours after every IRL race
showing what drivers and crew members are injured and how they are put together
by the medical staff….do to the extensive procedures ESPN has agreed to make
each show 2 hours reality show a first in the reality TV industry

ROTFLMAO!
Now that has got to be one of the funniest things I have ever seenon

Good one, Schnorky!
