German 500

I just read that from September 13-15 2001 the first CART event in Europe
will take place on the Lausitzring and it’s called "German 500".
If September 15 isn’t a typo, there will be no interference with the F1
race.

According to http://www.racing1.de CART will race on the Lausitzring (or
"EuroSpeedway" as it now is called – stupid name, but it’s the biggest
motorsports facility in Europe, so the name makes sense) at least 5 years.

Easier to say or remember than Lausitzring,….
Plus I’ve caught muself a couple of times saying "Nürburgring", without
thinking, so that may have come into play as well…

    Not for a German.

Yeah, but I’m not German ;-)
Its just one of those deals I guess,…

I find it interesting that CART will have two races next year,…
    One in Montery
    The other in Monterrey

Good thing the tracks are Laguna and Mexico…. A little easier to
    differentiate…

    LOL!

Will they do the Stars and Stripes before the race, as they do before all
    CART races ?

    :)

I hope you got a big house Martin, a lot of people are coming…

The wife and I are already expecting to use the best guest bedroom he has
available.  I can’t wait to taste the incredibly delicious German breakfast
he will personally prepare every morning for each of us staying at his
house.  And the night meal should be outstanding, considering that Martin
will stay at home all day to cook for us while we are at the track.  Yum,
    yum.

Martin, you do understand that this is the way racing is done here in the US,
don’t you?  The host never gets to the track.  They get their enjoyment from
    pleasing the visitors.

This is good,.. The announcement isn’t even 24 hours old and already guys
are making plans to get to the races,…

You guys are gonna have a good time,… Maybe you guys should document your
"First Europen CART trip" and write a little article about it for cart.com
    or 7thgear or something….

Nope.   Motorsport.com.   I’d even take a photograph of the RASC group.

    This has gotta be CART incrementalism. CART will get European attention;
people will be excited by these cars, and some fine road course that knows
it will never get an F1 date will cozy up to Rahal saying: "When you’re
here next year, why not just tarry a week longer at this nice road course
    we have?"

A CART car is mighty impressive on an oval, but you can’t look at them and
not want both sides of their abilities.

    Incrementalism.

I was thinking the same thing,…
Maybe some day CART will have three european races, one of which is a road
    course…
Its pretty obvious that CART is happy with the two ovals, and I don’t think
F1 would feel to threatened by CART having one road race, especially at a
    non-F1 track…

Three solid races in Europe would be enough for CART, Make sure the Ovals in
NA are strong, and the road/street course in NA will take care of
themselves.. A little bit of everything..

    Varity is good…

Heres something to think about CART is now racing on every continent except
    Africa,…. (okay not Antarctica)…. Great stuff…

Until F1 adds an African GP again, both series are racing on the same
continents. So why not renaming it "CART world championship"?

World series sound more american, and I think CART is good to keep away from
"world championship" since F1 uses that….

Besides, I knida like the sound of "world series"

Well, plans were made long before the official announcement (ref: my
followup to the the unofficial schedule). And after my vacation which
includes Surfers Paradise and Fontana, I really don’t think I can wait
    for next year…

    to get to those races…

Same with F1. Therefore, CART deserves the name CART FedEx World
    Championship Series.

Personally, I think the name of the series is great. It sounds kind of
American, but it has an international ring to it a s well….
