Panoz to Supply Champ Car’s New ’07 Chassis
Written by: Cassio Cortes Indianapolis, Ind. – 10/11/2005

Champ Car has confirmed that American race car maker Panoz will be the
Champ Car World Series’ sole chassis supplier beginning in 2007, when
the championship will also debut a revised, more powerful version of
its turbocharged Cosworth engines.

The 2007 Champ Car, as previously confirmed by co-owner Kevin
Kalkhoven, is a "lighter, nimbler" approach to the current Lola
B2K/00 that has effectively dominated the series since Cristiano da
Matta’s 2002 title. Lolas have comprised the entirety of the
series’ field this season, as the Walker and Conquest teams finally
ditched the uncompetitive Reynards they had campaigned in 2004.

The 2007 package is designed to reduce operating costs for both teams,
with a new rolling chassis set to cost approximately 35 percent less
than the current car while the costs of spare parts are expected to
yield a savings to teams of nearly 50 percent. Champ Car says the
design will also allow exploration new technologies such as carbon
brakes, which will allow for even more cost savings over the life of
the car.

"The reduction in cost of the Panoz DP01 and Cosworth engine will
benefit Champ Car’s teams immensely," said Tony Cotman, Champ Car vice
president of operations. "The design and cost will keep our current
teams in the series but will also attract new teams to the series.
Combined with the reduced cost, the new design also makes the Champ Car
World Series even more of a driver’s series. The lighter, smaller car
means teams will rely even more on the drivers to achieve maximum
performance."

The venerable 2.65-liter Cosworth turbo will soldier on, but with 25
extra horses to pull a car relieved of one full Paul Tracy’s worth of
weight, the ’07-spec Champ Car should be a significantly faster
machine.

Yesterday, Panoz was confirmed alongside Dallara to continue as one of
the Indy Racing League’s official chassis suppliers. No American
chassis makers have been involved in the Champ Car World Series since
Swift Engineering withdrew after the 2000 season.

Is it a game or a sim? Will it actually come true?
______________

CHAMP CAR WORLD SERIES ANNOUNCES EXCLUSIVE VIDEO-GAME DEVELOPMENT
PARTNERSHIP WITH SE GAMES AND JESTER INTERACTIVE PUBLISHING

Indianapolis (October 14, 2005) – The Champ Car World Series today announced
a long-term partnership with SE GAMES and Jester Interactive Publishing to
develop exclusively licensed video games and related merchandise to series
fans and gamers worldwide for Champ Car and its support series brands.

The multi-year agreement was announced today, leading up to the Lexmark Indy
300, Round 12 of the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered
by Ford, which runs October 21-23 along the Gold Coast, Surfers Paradise,
Australia. The Champ Car-themed games are slated to be developed for use
across a number of personal gaming platforms with further game release
details to be announced.

"Champ Car is very pleased to announce this strategic partnership," said
Champ Car President Steve Johnson. "Champ Car is all about entertainment and
video games afford us the ability to extend the range of entertainment
offerings to our fans. This is another important step as we continue to
build a solid future for the Champ Car World Series."

"SE GAMES is extremely proud of the association with Champ Car and its
support series brands," said SE GAMES President and CEO, Michael Donaldson.
"Thanks to Kevin Kalkhoven, Gerry Forsythe and Paul Gentilozzi, Champ Car
has become the most engaging form of open-wheel racing today and now we,
along with Jester Interactive, can bring this high level of entertainment to
households around the globe, on the most popular interactive platforms. It’s
truly a very exciting time for the Series and fans."

"Jester Interactive Publishing is very pleased to conclude this exclusive
partnership and Champ Car is without a doubt one of the most exciting close
action racing series today" commented Clark Evans of Jester Interactive.
"Securing the Champ Car World Series and its support series brands
collectively expands our racing game portfolio significantly and presents
Jester with a great opportunity. At this very early stage, we anticipate
progressing the design of what we believe will be a realistic and fun game
to play."

Team Australia will field three cars for the upcoming Champ Car race in
Australia.

Aussie native Will Power will be behind the wheel of the third Lola-Ford,
joining Canadian Alex Tagliani and rookie Marcus Marshall for the Lexmark
Indy 300. There is also a possibility he could take part in the season finale
in Mexico City.

Power has also signed a three year deal with the team but at this time its
uncertain if that means Team Australia will run three cars in 2006 or if one
of either Tagliani or Marshall will be out of drive next season.

"We have been toying with the idea of running three cars at the Lexmark Indy
300 for sometime and when Will made himself available we jumped at the
chance," said Team Australia co-owner Craig Gore.

"Will has had the opportunity to test with us and has done an impressive job.
It is great that we not only have an Australian in a third car, but to have a
Queenslander is a bonus.

Derek Walker says he’s very impressed with Power’s ability behind the wheel
of a Champ Car.

"All the early indications are that Will could be a very competitive driver
in the Champ Car series," said Walker.

"He certainly has the pace and is professional in the way he approaches his
racing."

Power is no stranger to the Gold Coast circuit, having started on pole there
for two Formula Ford support races in 2000, winning one and finishing fourth
in the other.

The following year he was invited to be a part of the Honda Young Guns
program in which he took the pole and won race one before finishing second in
race two.

In 2002 he competed in the Formula 3 support events and again took pole
before having a clean sweep in the two support races.

In 2003 Power moved to Europe and drove in the British Formula 3 Championship
with both Diamond Racing and Fortec Motorsport.

Last season he took five podium finishes in 12 meetings with the Australian-
owned Alan Docking Racing team and was also provided an F1 test with Minardi,
where he was the fastest of the three drivers who tested.

This season Power has been competing in the World Series by Renault
Championship in Europe with Carlin Motorsport, where in his first test of the
season in Barcelona he topped the time sheets and beat the 2004 pole time by
a second.

He currently sits sixth in the Renault championship, but will miss the final
round at Monza in Italy next week because of his Australian commitments.

"The Champ Car World Series is one of the most exciting categories of racing
in the world and I am excited about being a part of it with Team Australia,"
said Power.

"I got a real taste for the Gold Coast event when I competed in the Honda
Young Guns event in 2001 and to finally get an opportunity in an Australian-
owned and branded team is something I am going to be proud of."

Power says next season will be a learning one for him but he expects to be
winning races in 2007 and challenging for the Champ Car title in 2008.

Here they are: the standings after Las Vegas. Didn’t make haste with
these, as at the time Korea was shaky and we all know how that ended.
Anyway, the breakdown details:

Practice picks:

1. RusH2112 117
2. Christof Kappler 104
3. Frank….H 93

Qualifying picks:

1. Mark Seem 69
2. Atomic Mutant 53
-. alien 53
3. Sander Verbrugge 50

Race picks:

1. FastKenny 90
2. Mark Seem 75
3. Chris Halverson 71

Event overall:

So Mark Seem wins Las Vegas! And with only two races instead of three
left, it’ll be hard to catch Frank:

01. (01.) Frank….H 2754
02. (02.) Sander Verbrugge 2649
03.
And since we’ve had all oval races on the schedule now, it’s time to make
up the final standings of the two races together, top 3 only shown:
