Where is the Andretti is shot stuff?

Finally getting a grasp on setting up the Honda – Lola.  I’m not saying that
he will win the champioship, but he will be in the top 5.  This guy has 5
good years left in him.

The only people coming up with this CART is for young guys are the punks
whose parents bought them a computer.  Hell, if Unser could have stayed
straight he would still be in this series too.

TV schedule for Europe

Hi,

does anyone here, despite of being a mainly American newsgroup, where can I
get serious information about TV schedule in Europe?

Yesterday evening (MEST) suddenly there was the race from Cleveland
televised live on a local channel (German ORB). I had a little channel
hopping, and there it was.

Regards
Joerg

Mario Andretti to field new car in CART in 2003

According to AP.

They also say CART … "is in the midst of a strong comeback led by new CEO
and president Chris Pook."

Anyone think they could hold a CART race if they don’t get the F1 gig?

14 NAFTA races, 6 international?

Caught a piece about the IRL/CART divide on TSN this morning and Chris
Pook said the plan is for 14 NAFTA races and 6 international events.

This is the first I’ve heard of this and I think it’s great but I’m
wondering where the 6 races are going to be held.

On the schedule for next year:

Rockingham, Rio and Australia.

That leaves room for 3 more tracks.  I think it’s a sure thing that Pook
wants back into the Asian market but where in Asian?

Neither Honda nor Toyota are going to offer up their tracks.  Does Zhuhai
actually exist or is that one they’re thinking of building?  Perhaps Aida
or Sugo?  Not sure what those tracks look like though.  I’d imagine they’d
want more than one race in Asia.

Then in Europe the status of Lausitzring is up in the air.  I certainly
hope they work things out – I think it’s an awesome facility for CART to
be racing at.  There was rumors of Silverstone last week.

I wouldn’t mind seeing a track like Zandvoort or Brands Hatch used.
Perhaps if Spa is abandoned by F1 then that would be an option.

Thoughts?

No Peraltada at Mexico?

From the map that CART has on their site it looks like the CART guys won’t
be going through Peraltada.  If true this is a big shame, I’ve never seen
cars go through there but I’m told it’s one of those daunting challeges
that separates the men from the boys.

There’s not enough challenging turns as it is – let’s have these guys go
at it a bit more eh?

Can anyone confirm that CART is wussing out at Mexico?

Looking for Cleveland pic

In one of the last Cleveland races one car retired under the wing of the
FedEx plane. Does anyone know where I can find a pic of that? Or maybe
someone has it and could send it to me. Many thanks in advance.

Cleveland Count

Is it true that the Burke Lakefront Airport
Circuit only holds 21,480 folks??????

Each grandstand has 120 seats in each row.

Stand A – 28 rows  (not sold to public)
Stand D – 22 rows
Stand E – 25 rows
Stand F – 22 rows
Stand G – 22 rows
Stand H – 22 rows
Stand J – 22 rows
Stand K – 16 rows

Do the math. Add the number of rows and
multiply by 120.

21,480

Ouch.

Wait’ll they announce 50,000 on race day!!

25 deep at the fence, eh?

Or are they under the grandstands once again?

Road to Perdition

Anyone know where I can find a pic of Cristanio da Matta’s car with the
Road to Perdition logos clearly visible on it? I have a friend who gives me
crap about being a racing fan all the time, but he is a huge film fan, and
I get to return the favor by needling him with the fact that some of his
heroes love racing. Paul Newman is one of the sharpest needles to use. ;-)

Speaking of Paul, anyone see him on Letterman last night? They spent a
short time talking about CART and racing in general. The best bit was just
before he left when Letterman said "I know you’re doing something to the
car." And Paul replied "I don’t know what they are putting in Cristiano’s
food." ;-)
