Caught a piece about the IRL/CART divide on TSN this morning and Chris
Pook said the plan is for 14 NAFTA races and 6 international events.
This is the first I’ve heard of this and I think it’s great but I’m
wondering where the 6 races are going to be held.
On the schedule for next year:
Rockingham, Rio and Australia.
That leaves room for 3 more tracks. I think it’s a sure thing that Pook
wants back into the Asian market but where in Asian?
Neither Honda nor Toyota are going to offer up their tracks. Does Zhuhai
actually exist or is that one they’re thinking of building? Perhaps Aida
or Sugo? Not sure what those tracks look like though. I’d imagine they’d
want more than one race in Asia.
Then in Europe the status of Lausitzring is up in the air. I certainly
hope they work things out – I think it’s an awesome facility for CART to
be racing at. There was rumors of Silverstone last week.
I wouldn’t mind seeing a track like Zandvoort or Brands Hatch used.
Perhaps if Spa is abandoned by F1 then that would be an option.
Thoughts?
